The Lounge is at the front of the house and faces west, on clear days we are usually awarded with fantastic views of the sun setting behind the Ardgour Hills. Come in and have a sit down in the evening and relax after your day out with your favourite tipple.
We don’t have a T.V. in this room.
On the bookshelf you will find books and information about the area. There are also some Scottish magazines, reference and fiction books. During Covid-19 times if you take a book/information off the shelf please either put it in the marked box by the bookshelf or take it up to your room and leave it in there. This allows us to sterilise the item and return it to the shelf after 72 hours. There is a small hand sanitiser on the mantelpiece.
In November 2018 we ripped out the 1970’s yorkstone fire surround and replaced it with a restored cast iron Victorian fireplace, new mantel piece and bookcase. The fireplace and the tiles show thistles which we bought to match the original coving in the room which is ferns and thistles.
The hearth is Ballachulish slate. we found it in the garden when we had the garden landscaped. David wanted to make a bench out of it but I thought it would be put to better use in the house!
We look forward to having the fire lit on cooler evenings.
The Lounge and Dining Room have decorative plaster coving, the other rooms have just place plaster coving.
The staircase has decorative wrought iron spindles.
It is interesting to see that the woodwork in Fern Villa looks to be the same design as in other Victorian properties around the area. I wonder if the same craftsman made them all?
