Guest Information Room Book

Due to Covid-19 we have put our Guest Information Room Book on our website.  The book is usually in each bedroom for guests to have a browse through at their leisure.  Having it on here will save people having to the handle the folder.   We have kept it to one page so please scroll down to read all the information.  Not all pages are included but everything that is in the folder you will find on our website.  If you do not find what you are looking for please give us a shout.

There will be a few laminated sheets in your room with useful information.  These are removed after each check out, sterilised and put into quarantine for a minimum of 72 hours.

Welcome to Fern Villa Guest House

It is with great pleasure that Catherine and David welcome you to Fern Villa.

This is our home and we would like you to feel that it is yours too during your stay with us.

We hope you will find the following information helpful, however, if you would like any assistance please give us a shout and we will be happy to help.  Ask us in person by following social distancing or call any of the numbers below.

General Information

If the kitchen door is closed it usually means that we have either gone out or retired for the evening.

Should you need to contact us and you know we are in the house ring 01855 811393.  If we are not about you can call Catherine on 07375479346 or David on 07972514745.  We live in the small white cottage next to the house and the phone number for there is 01855 811817.

If you come back to the house late in the evening can you please make sure that the front door is closed securely behind you.  There will be security lighting in the hall and on the landing which can be left on.  Please respect that other people may be sleeping and keep noise to a minimum.

The CoOp supermarket is usually open between 7am – 10pm 7 days a week, however during these times this may change.  There is a sink outside to wash your hands before entering the shop.  Please follow any advice given by the shop.  There is a cash machine outside.

To find the CoOp turn right out of the gate to the bottom of the road, to the right of the Strathassynt Guest House is a footpath, follow that to the end and you will see the supermarket to your left.

There is a Doctors in the village next to the aforementioned Strathassynt Guest House.  Their number is 01855 811226.  The nearest hospital is in Fort William.

Polite Requests

We know that most of our guests will respect our home and treat it as they would their own.  However, sadly there have been a few people who didn’t and we have had to make several expensive replacements over the years as a result.  We don’t want to put up too many signs around the house so our requests are noted here:

  • Please remove outdoor shoes in the porch, we will supply a box for you to put them in.
  • Please don’t hang wet clothing up in your bedroom.*
  • Please don’t eat food in your room.  If possible we can set up a table in the breakfast room for you or if it is a nice day there are picnic tables in the Shinty Park opposite or in the Quarry.
  • Please use the coasters provided for any drinks.
  • Out of respect to other guests please keep noise to a minimum between 7am and 10pm.

* We have a drying room but it may not be possible to safely use this for multiple guests.  We will review this on an ongoing basis.

Ensuite Bathroom Instructions

In Rooms 1, 3, 4, 5 the light switch can be found outside of the bathroom door.  In Room 2 the light is inside the door to your left.

The light also triggers the extractor fan; this will continue to run for around 10 minutes after the light is switched off.

In Rooms 1, 2, 3 and 4 the heated towel rails can be turned on by pulling the cord above.  In Room 5 the switch is in the bedroom beneath the mirror.  Please take care as the rail gets very HOT.

To use the shower, turn it on and wait a few minutes for the water to be heated before testing the temperature and adjusting as necessary before stepping in.

Above the sink is a mirror with a light and a shaver point.

Bedroom Amenities

Please ask us for a kettle, cups,  milk, team, coffee, hot chocolate and sugar as required.  These would usually be in the white cabinet but we think it better to give them out personally during these times.

The radiators are on thermostatic control so you can control the temperature in the room whilst the heating is on.

We have also removed the soft furnishings, if you require an extra blanket please let us know.

How to open the Windows

In Rooms  1, 2, 3 and 4 the windows are tilt and turn.  You need to push in the button on the handle to move it.

When the handle is at 6 o’clock the window is locked.

Move the handle to 9 o’clock to tilt the window open from the top towards you.

Put the handle to 12 o’clock to allow the window to swing open inwards.  Please make sure that items are removed from the window sill and the curtains are pulled back enough before doing this.

Please leave the window open as much as possible.
